Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Syracuse man is facing felony charges after an early-morning standoff in the city’s Eastwood area.
Daniel Duhamel, 48, has been charged with first degree reckless endangerment, a felony; third degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony; and second degree menacing, a misdemeanor
Police were called to Duhamel’s apartment on James Street near the corner of Walter Avenue, just before midnight. They were responding to a shots fired call. They quickly surrounded the four-unit apartment and closed off a portion of James Street.
Police say the suspect was arguing with a roommate and fired a shotgun. The slug went through the ceiling and into a neighboring apartment. Police said the shotgun slug narrowly missed a neighbor.
According to police, the roommate ran from the residence and called 911.
When police arrived, Duhamel refused to leave the house. Police called SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation team.
Police evacuated some neighboring residences and a reverse call system was used to warn neighbors to stay inside.
After several hours, a police negotiator convinced Duhamel to surrender.
Police say they found at least one gun in the residence.
Duhamel is being held on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
