North Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - "Do they need to update the system?" one Central New Yorker asked after waking up without power Sunday morning.

National Grid crews have had their share of work on the weekends this summer, with various issues at substations.  The latest problems affected roughly 12,000 customers in North Syracuse and Liverpool.

Around 6:15 a.m. a problem at the Pine Grove substation affected 7,800 customers in the North Syracuse area.  Two-thirds of those homes were back online within an hour, according to a National Grid spokesperson.

Then, just before 8:00 a.m. equipment failed at the Hopkins Road substation, affecting 4,200 Liverpool customers.

When asked if the issue had anything to do with aging infrastructure, the spokeswoman said workers were still looking into the causes, but it appears something triggered a breaker to kick off, shutting down the flow of power.

In both cases, power was restored to everyone by 9:45 a.m. according to the spokesperson.
