Clay (WSYR-TV) - State police say three people were killed Friday night when a driver heading the wrong way on 481 North slammed head-on into another car.

The crash took place at approximately 10:45 p.m. near the Henry Clay Boulevard overpass.

Troopers say a man in his 60s and a woman in her 80s were in the car that was heading the wrong way; their vehicle then struck a car driven by a 27-year-old woman. All three died in the crash.

Sandra Chesare, of Oswego, tells NewsChannel 9 that she was heading home from the Chiefs game with her family when the wrong-way car hurtled by their vehicle going at a high rate of speed; Chesare says the car missed striking theirs by about a foot.

When she called 911, operators told her that they had already received calls about the wrong-way driver.

Route 481 North was shut down for several hours between Maple Road and Route 31 as police investigated the crash. The road began to reopen just after 4:00 a.m. Saturday.

State police are asking anyone with any information about the crash to call Investigator Kevin Connors at 677-9964.

Early Saturday morning, police identified the victims:  Gary Foster, 60, of Moore Ave. in Syracuse, and Jacqueline Grove, 82, of E. Brighton Ave were in the car heading in the wrong direction. Police say Foster was the driver.  Alaina Reed, 27, of Braewood Drive in Baldwinsville was the driver of the other car.
