Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police and fire personnel confirmed on Friday that a man who was pulled out of a burning residence on Cayuga Street early Monday morning has died.

Police confirmed the death during a Friday afternoon press conference in which they alerted the public to a series of fires on Tipperary Hill. They believe three of the fires were set intentionally.

Police Chief Frank Fowler said they learned on Thursday that 90-year-old Fred Brown died as a result of injuries he sustained in the fire.

Now neighbors who are mourning the loss of Brown, want answers.

"The sad thing is Mr. Brown," said one neighbor. "I don't understand. It's actually a very quiet neighborhood most of the time and now someone is going around and setting fires."

Police are warning neighbors who live on Tipperary Hill to be on the lookout for suspicious behavior and to report anything that seemed out of the ordinary in the last few weeks.

"It's scary. It's such a small neighborhood," said neighbor Michelle Minney.
