Venice, NY (WSYR-TV) – Two men have been charged with stealing ammonia from a Cayuga County farm to use for manufacturing methamphetamine.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department arrested Casey D. Aldrich, 33, of Elkland, PA and Timothy Hickey, 34, of Corning, NY.
The two allegedly stole the anhydrous ammonia from a farm on Shields Rd. in the town of Venice on Thursday morning.
Anhydrous ammonia is commonly used as fertilizer on farms and is an ingredient that can be used to make methamphetamine.
The sheriff’s department says interviews with the suspects revealed that the ammonia was going to be used for making the drug.
Aldrich and Hickey were both charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, and possession of burlgar’s tools, a misdemeanor.
Aldrich is on parole in Pennsylvania and is being held without bail. Hickey sent to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
