Utica (WSYR-TV) – Utica Police confirmed on Thursday that one of the two people found dead in a home on McVean Street in the city was wanted in connection to a Monday shooting.

Police were looking for Jerry McNair after he strangled and shot his ex-girlfriend on Monday night.

Although she was shot at point-blank range in the back of the head, the woman survived.

They tracked McNair to an upstairs apartment on McVean Street and surrounded the residence with the help of officers from other agencies.

After a standoff that lasted nearly five hours, they entered the residence and found two dead people – McNair and another woman he was romantically involved with, Petra Gonzalez.

Police believe McNair shot Gonzalez and then turned the gun on himself.

Police say the woman McNair shot on Monday night is likely to survive.
