Syracuse (WSYR-TV/ABC News) – An actress best known for her portrayal as “Rhoda” on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” has been diagnosed with a terminal illness.

According to ABCNews.com, Valerie Harper, 73, first learned that she had terminal brain cancer on Jan. 15.

A few days after learning of her diagnosis, the woman who played the legendary Rhoda Morgenstern visited Good Morning America to promote her memoir “I, Rhoda.”

In the book, she discusses her battle with lung cancer in 2009 while starring in the Broadway show “Looped.”

Harper talks about her recent diagnosis in an issue of People magazine.
