Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Police say the victim who suffered head injuries in an assault Friday afternoon has been upgraded to serious condition. Police have also arrested a man accused of beating him with a hammer.

Police say the assault happened around 3:30 p.m. at 7 Styles in the 2000 block of South Salina Street. Bradley Washington, 51, had gone to the shop because his niece had told him she was having a dispute with the owner, Craig Davis, 41.

Police say Davis hit Washington at least twice with a hammer, and an unknown person hit him with an ashtray. Washington suffered severe head injuries.

Washington has been taken to the hospital, where he is in serious condition.

Davis has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Police say they are still looking for the person who hit Washington with an ashtray.
