Newport News, Va. (WSYR-TV) – A Virginia middle school teacher was recently shocked to learn that she was the target of a poisoning plot launched by two of her math students. According to ABC News
, two students put hand sanitizer into a tea cup used by Newport News teacher Jane Miller at least twice.
The 13-year-olds were charged with one count of poisoning.
Miller, who has been teaching for 40 years, said she never tasted the hand sanitizer but suffered some stomach problems and other symptoms of illness.
Attempted poisoning is a felony in Virginia that carries a minimum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.
The teacher told ABC News she didn’t know why the students would try to poison her.
