Wagner Vineyards wins Best in Show award at State Fair wine competition

Geddes (WSYR-TV) -- The results are in for the State Fair’s annual Commercial Wine Competition.

Wagner Vineyards, located in Lodi, NY, won this year’s Best in Show award for its 2011 Wagner Riesling Ice.

Other top honors included:

Best White
Bellhurst Estate Winery 2011 Semi-Dry Riesling, which also won the coveted June Phillips Riesling Award

Best of Red
Keuka Springs’ 2010 Miller’s Cove Red

Best Sparkling
Chateau Frank’s 2006 Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Chardonnay

Best Fruit
Earl Estates Meadery’s Apple Wine

Best Rose/Blush
Lucas Vinyards’ Cab Franc Rose

Best Specialty
Beack and Skiff Apple Farms’ Apple Vodka

Best Fortified
Goose Watch’s Classic Cream Sherry

Best Dessert
Wagner Vineyards’ 2011 Wagner Riesling Ice

Wines were grouped according to levels of residual sugar or style whenever possible and were evaluated by qualified judges, including wine makers, retailers, columnists, retauranteurs and more.

All wines entered in the competition had to be produced in New York State and had to be bottled for sale at the time of entry.

The Commercial Wine Competition was held on June 9.
