Snow buries Central New York 12-27-2012

(WSYR-TV, Syracuse) Now that the storm system has begun its departure, drier air has filtered in for most and snow showers have begun to wind down. The one area where we could locally see a few more inches accumulate is southeast of Lake Ontario. A band of lake effect snow has begun to form, bringing light to moderate snow.

One area of concern is the possibility for freezing mist/drizzle in the western Finger Lakes. We’ve seen reports through the early afternoon and expect that these conditions may continue on and off through Friday. The additional coating of ice may make for difficult traveling on untreated roads.

By this evening, it looks like the Storm Team’s forecast will have played out with snowfall near a foot in most areas surrounding the city of Syracuse with greater amounts North and West. The next 24 hours will feature only light accumulations of an inch or two with scattered snow showers.
