SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Part of the giant ice tower at Winterfest in Syracuse came crumbling down early Saturday morning.
Ice builder Joe Borasky says high winds thinned it out and melted it in about five hours. That is a little less than the seven hours it took him and his crew to build it over the last three days.
Although the tower won’t be as big, Borasky told NewsChannel 9 it is salvageable and is going back up.
"It will be a smaller crew. Just have one or two guys. But by six o'clock tonight I hope to have the lights back in it and have it all working and back up again. It won't be 18 feet again, not even close, but it will be back up,” said Borasky.
After sunset, the tower will be hosed down to make it clear and crystal for Sunday.
Borasky said Saturday’s snow will help hold it together.
