Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The new Lieutenant Governor used his Wednesday visit to Syracuse to make an announcement for this year’s Emerging Business Competition. It was Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch’s first visit to Syracuse, since taking over as David Paterson's second in command.

This year, the top prize for the best business idea has doubled to $200,000.  The Lt. Governor says the project, in which private companies provide funding for emerging business ideas, is an important one, to help spur new growth.  He added that the government is not in a position to do it alone.

The competition, which had awarded $100,000 in each of the previous three years, recognizes the most innovative and growth-oriented business in the region.
