Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- A drug discount card is saving Onondaga County residents millions of dollars.
The ProAct drug discount card has saved residents more than $18 million since 2007, filling more than 435,000 prescriptions at -- an average savings of 57 percent on each medication filled.
“The ProAct Drug Discount card is an excellent way for those who are uninsured or underinsured to realize real savings on everyday prescription medication purchases. We are happy to offer this free service at no taxpayer expense to the residents of Onondaga County,” said County Executive Joanie Mahoney said in a written release.
The drug discount card program was launched in November 2007. The program aims to help uninsured or underinsured residents afford prescription medication.
The program saves residents 10 to 20 percent on name brand medications and up to 70 percent off on generic medications.

One card can cover an entire family and is free to county residents. There are no forms to fill out or prerequisites to use the card.
