Syracuse (WSYR-TV/Salvation Army) -- The Salvation Army announced Friday it will be accepting donations of new clothing and household items to support families affected by Hurricane Sandy.
While financial donations are the best way to aid struggling communities, the Salvation Army says they recognize the community’s desire to contribute more tangible items.
The Salvation Army will only be collecting the following NEW items:
• New coats, winter hats and gloves
• New blankets
• New socks and underwear
• Large packages of garbage bags, paper towels and toilet paper
• Batteries (all sizes),
• Baby supplies: baby food, formula, disposable diapers
• Canned goods
If you wish to donate any of the above items, you may drop them off at the collection site, located at South Salina and New Streets, next to the Salvation Army’s 677 South Street Salina offices.
Drop offs will be collected on:
- Monday, November 12 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Tuesday, Novembe 13 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- And again on Monday, November 19 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Any items not used for the relief effort downstate will be used to meet the needs of those in the Central New York community.
Used clothing and household items are NOT being collected for disaster survivors, but The Salvation Army will continue to collect those items at its Family Stores.
