Today is OCRRA's last Hazardous Waste Drop Off Event of 2009, but if you don't already have an appointment you wont be able to get one -- all the slots are filled.
For those that do have an appointment: The collection is taking place at the Ley Creek Transfer Station, off 7th Street North, between 8:00 a.m. and noon.

Syracuse, New York (WSYR-TV) – OCRRA's final Household Hazardous Waste Event of 2009 will take place October 3
rd, between 8:00 a.m. and Noon at the
Ley Creek Transfer Station.

OCRRA’s website. Acceptable items include (but are not limited to):
- Automotive products such as transmission or brake fluid, engine degreaser, anti-freeze, diesel fuel, gas cans, and contaminated gasoline.
- Painting supplies, including OIL-BASED paints*, stains, or finishes, paint thinner, turpentine, brush cleaner, paint stripper, and wood preservatives.
- Garden supplies and pesticides.
- Cleaning supplies such as oven cleaner, drain cleaner, lye, toilet bowl cleaner, floor and furniture polish, mothballs and products containing petroleum.
- Miscellaneous products, such as fluorescent light bulbs, lighter fluid, kerosene, driveway sealer, nail polish remover, smoke detectors, loose asbestos that has been double bagged, and any product whose label has descriptions such as toxic, flammable, poisonous, corrosive.
OCRRA also wants to remind people that latex paint no longer contains mercury and is therefore no longer considered hazardous material. Make sure your leftover latex paint is dried out inside the can, and then you can throw the whole thing away in the regular trash pickup.
