Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Toyota said Thursday it never intended to mislead customers about the government's investigation of stuck gas pedals. The investigation has prompted the recall of floor mats in millions of vehicles.

In October, Toyota said there was no defect, but now says it is fully cooperating in the investigation and has issued a warning not to use the problem mats.

U.S. authorities said that warning was an "interim measure" and have urged Toyota to come up with a solution for "the underlying defect in the vehicles."

Toyota Motor Sales spokesman Irv Miller said Thursday that the company is "in the process of developing vehicle-based remedies to help avoid the potential for an incompatible or unsecured driver's floor mat to interfere with the accelerator pedal and cause it to get stuck in the wide open position."
