1 arrested in Cortland ‘gang assault’ that left man in critical condition

Cortland (WSYR-TV) – Cortland Police have arrested a man who they say participated in an assault that left another man in critical condition.

According to police, they found 25-year-old Robert Miller unconscious with a head injury after an altercation on 64 Main St., Cortland, around 12:42 a.m. on Saturday morning. Miller was taken to Cortland Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

The police say their investigation has led them to 24-year-old Kaywon Pittman of 10 Scammell St., Apt. B, Cortland.

They charged him with gang assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, and conspiracy in the fourth degree, all felonies.

They also charged Pittman with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, after finding cocaine among his belongings.

Pittman was arraigned and taken to the Cortland County Jail with no bail. He is scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on Aug. 1.
