Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Centro buses now have a new hub to pick up and drop off riders. The new $18-million transit hub opened on Tuesday.
The hub is located at the corner of South Salina and East Adams streets in the city. The first thing you may notice is the new hub has a lot more room and has spots for nearly two dozen buses to pull in.
But the first day always comes with a little confusion, especially when you have thousands of people transferring buses in and out.
The new hub will be able to handle up to 8,000 riders every day and the building will be kept cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
And though it will take a little while to get used to, it’s designed to make it easier to catch the buses, which are also following new routes and schedules as of Tuesday.
Another new feature you’ll notice are electronic signs inside that, when activated, will keep track of arrivals and departures.
The hub was originally scheduled to open in late July, but changes to the traffic signals delayed the project.
