Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Syracuse 19-year-old accused of killing Chance Gathers in retaliation for his brother’s as-yet-unsolved shooting death appeared in court on Thursday.
Syracuse Police
arrested Demetrius Hackett in April for the March killing.
He was later indicted on charges including second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
On Thursday, a judge suppressed Hackett’s statement to police, but refused to suppress the statements witnesses gave to police.
23-year-old Pierre Hackett
was killed in August 2011 in a Near West Side neighborhood.
Gathers was shot multiple times in the back while he stood in front of a home on Kenmore Avenue.
