2 rescued after plane crashes in Hudson River

YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - Two people have been rescued after their single-engine plane crashed and sank into the icy Hudson River off Yonkers.

Authorities say the plane was carrying a man and a woman on a sightseeing trip, and crashed about 5:20 p.m. Sunday.

The two were wearing life vests and were able to get out of the plane before it sank.

Authorities say they were plucked from the waters within 30 minutes of the crash and taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition.

They were not identified.

The Federal Aviation Administration described the plane as a Piper PA-32.

In 2009, Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in New York after striking a flock of geese. All 155 people aboard survived.
