SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Organizers report that about 7,000 people took part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event to raise $340,000 Sunday.

Organizers expect that figure to go up once additional donations are counted.

The event is meant to raise money for the American Cancer Society for research and services for women, in addition to honoring survivors and raising awareness about the disease.

Organizers are already looking ahead to next year.

"Our goal every year is to have more survivors walking because that means we're doing our job and funds raised are going to good. Next year it wouldn't hurt if it was a little bit sunny as well,” said Betsy Guilfoil with the American Cancer Society.

If you were not able to make the event at Clinton Square in Syracuse, you can still donate by clicking here.

NewsChannel 9 was proud to have a team participating again this year.
