CALVERTON, N.Y. (AP) - Four people are charged with stealing frozen shrimp from Long Island supermarkets and then reselling them to support their drug habits.

Suffolk County police say the 13-month scheme netted the defendants $2,400.

They were arrested in Calverton on Jan. 30. They face 22 counts of petit larceny, two counts of attempted larceny, one count of possession of a hypodermic needle and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Police say the suspects resold the frozen shrimp to a local Chinese restaurant to support their drug habits.

The owner of the Mastic Beach restaurant also was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
