Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The City of Syracuse Department of Public Works announced Friday that it will purchase new modems for all 270 parking pay stations, which will keep the current system operational and accepting credit cards.

The upgrade will cost the city a total of $67,500.

The city says it’s a cost-effective solution.

Officials opted for the purchase after receiving bids from a number of companies to install entirely new systems. Going that route could have cost the city more than $2 million.

The city says it will continue exploring options for future upgrades.
