Onondaga County (WSYR-TV) -- A local 7-year-old fighting cancer has always wanted to take a ride in the Onondaga County Sheriff Department’s Air 1 helicopter. On Friday, his wish came true.

Julian Ross was made an honorary helper for the Sheriff’s Department. He got to hop on board the chopper and go on patrol with a flight crew.

“The Sheriff’s Department is kind of suitable because Julian wants to be a police officer when he gets older, and a firefighter and an Army man – all three. He’s been watching the various helicopters from many different hospitals and that’s one of the main things when we started making his bucket list; that’s the first thing he said, ‘I want to go on a helicopter,’” said Julian’s mom Kristi Thompson.

Julian described his experience as “awesome!”
