ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Animal welfare officials in Eastern New York are looking for information about three abused pit bull mix puppies found abandoned on railroad tracks.

The Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society tells local media that the smallest of the puppies died after they were brought in for care of infected wounds, malnutrition and dehydration.

They say the animals, less than a month old, were found Saturday by a railroad worker on tracks in Albany.

The society says a paw on one puppy appeared to have been sawed off and the others had holes punctured in their paws.
