Accident shuts down portion of Jamesville Road in DeWitt

DeWitt (WSYR-TV) -- An accident has shut down a portion of Jamesville Road in DeWitt.

Police say a car hit a utility pole on Jamesville Road, just south of Woodchuck Hill Road Wednesday evening.

Police say the crash broke the pole into into two pieces and warn that there are live wires down in the roadway.

Jamesville Road is closed between Woodchuck Hill Road, Rock Cut Road and Solvay Road until further notice.

National Grid has is at the scene and hopes to have the pole repaired within several hours.

The driver, 64-year-old Stephen Kofturik, of Fabius, was not hurt.

The accident is under investigation.
