Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The owner of Acropolis Pizza on the SU Hill has made adjustments to keep his customers safe after a rash of crimes earlier this fall.
Mavrikidis says he’ll cooperate with police on everything except closing earlier than 3 a.m.
“If I close early, they might as well take my keys. I can not do that,” Mavrikidis said.
The city has threatened to do that, citing late night crimes and fights. The pizza shop owner says he’s taking steps to upgrade security and prevent underage sales and keep people from loitering near his shop. He’s hoping his efforts are enough to stay open.
“They’re telling me one person was here when they got him outside he had marijuana in his pocket, another guy had a gun in his pocket, the whole city should be closed if that's the case.” Mavrikidis continued.
Mavrikidis says he won’t wait for the city to make and deliver a decision.
The nuisance abatement hearing is set for December 11 and Syracuse’s police chief will make the decision on whether to close the restaurant for a period of time.
