KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - An Afghan official says a bomb has killed 10 young girls in the east of the country.

Mohammad Seddiq says the girls ranging from about 9 to 13 years old were gathering firewood outside of Dawlatzai village in Nangarhar province's Chaperhar district when the explosion went off.

Seddiq is the government administrator for the district and talked to The Associated Press from the site of the blast.

He says it is not clear what caused the bomb to go off.

He says two other girls were seriously wounded and are in critical condition at a hospital.
