Funny, thought this was already a "law" in New York State. We have been implementing the $25.00 credit (from the seller as a matter of fact to purchase one for your new home) for one if one was not installed in the home for quite some time.

we were supposed to get one when we bought our home, but the realtor never gave us one. I asked him three times. I even spoke with his lawyer once and it's been two yrs. (the realtor was also the broker/home owner).

"Even single-incident CO exposures can have long-term health consequences, such as cardiovascular manifestations, neurological dysfuntion, or brain damage, occuring days to weeks after exposure. In 14 to 44% of serious initial CO poisonings, the individual exposed still faces the prospect of delayed neurologic dysfuntion." (NFPA)

Well, I think this is an excellent law. Anyone that has a problem with this needs to think again about the consequences of carbon monoxide!

Roaming groups of cops??????? If I may change the focus, the National Fire Protection Association has information at www.nfpa.org To answer Observer7, death from Carbon monoxide in campers, tents and temporary shelters is 14% of deaths or approximately 67 people.

now really how are they going to inforce this law? will there be roaming groups of cops inspecting houses kind of like roadblocks? Its just a sam by the state to get people to buy $75 units thus generating tax money for the state.

How does someone "shout" with caps? Please! - and it is an evil nanny state. Localcomment, where does this fall in the law of NYS - let us know? I WILL NOT REST UNTIL A DETECTOR IS SOLD WITH EVERY TENT IN NYS!!(caps to emphasize me "shouting" in front of my computer!!) - see as follows: "March 16, 1999 ATLANTA - A man, three children and a dog who went on a weekend camping trip in chilly weather were found dead inside their tent, apparently victims of carbon monoxide poisoning from a propane gas stove they put inside to keep warm"

Localcomment-LOL- Are you a builder?

localcomment - 2/8/2010 9:57 PM
observer7 and Paddy (please don't shout with the caps!) think that electrical code, gas code, structural guidelines, and building inspections are all a government conspiracy by the evil nanny state.

Observer7- should a car have to pass a State inspection to travel on a roadway?
