SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - More donations of bicycles are needed for the annual CNY Family Bike Giveaway may not be able to reach as many kids as in year’s past.
While 2011 was a record year for donations, this year has been a different story.
"Usually at this time in our first week we'll have about 1,000 bikes in the building, not all of them useable, but we're probably around 500 right now so I'm concerned,” said founder Jan Maloff.
The giveaway is still a few weeks away, but in order to reach their goal, organizers need at least 3,000 more bikes and more spare parts by December 20th.
"Everybody probably remembers that first bike they got when the training wheels came off. I'd like to, and my volunteers would like to give that feeling to a family in need,” said Maloff.
Donations will be accepted until December 20th. The Bike Giveaway is scheduled for December 22nd.

You can donate a bike at the Dairy Building at the New York State Fairgrounds in Geddes, any day of the week, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
