Mild air has overspread central New York and will be with us through the end of the work week.  However, it looks like rain will return before the end of the week. A strong storm (low pressure system) is developing over the northern Plains this afternoon.  Extending south from this low into Texas is a cold front. As this front moves east over the next 24 hours it will tap into some Gulf of Mexico moisture. It is this moisture that will move over central New York Thursday night in the form of showers.

There is still a bit of uncertainty from our computer models as to how Friday’s weather will unfold and everything hinges on how quickly that cold front (now to our west) moves through.  Since there is no consensus from the models as of this afternoon we are going to keep with the threat for showers throughout the day with cloudy weather.

Over the weekend, the parent low pressure system (both down at the ground and aloft) will slowly track east across the Great Lakes and then into the Northeast.  This low is associated with a pocket of cooler air aloft so our temperatures down at the ground will drop closer normal.  In addition, we expect showers both days with the best chance coming on Saturday.

The low finally kicks out by Monday and the air coming our way is not only dry but mild yet again.  Our temperatures should be quite a bit above normal to start the upcoming work week.
