Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Emergency crews rushed to the scene of an apartment fire at 808 Kirkpatrick Street on Syracuse’s West Side Thursday afternoon.

Fire officials say there were no injuries and everyone was able to make it out of the building safely.

Twelve people – three families of four -- were displaced due to the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the families with lodging, food, clothing and other necessities.

The fire appears to have originated on the second floor of the building and was contained to just one room, according to fire officials at the scene.

Firefighters used tarps to prevent the fire from spreading to the first floor.

An investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
