Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Police arrested a bicyclist they say was armed with a handgun on the city’s Southwest side late Monday night.

Police attempted to stop the bicyclist, identified as 34-year-old Timothy Brunson, after he failed to stop at a stop sign. Police say Brunson took off when police tried to stop him, but was soon arrested after a brief struggle in the 100 block of Merriman Avenue.

Brunson was carrying a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun when he was arrested, police said. He's been charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and was issued several traffic tickets.

And, according to police, this wasn't Brunson's first run-in with the law. Brunson had two active warrants on file, which resulted in additional charges, including felony offering a false instrument, criminal purchase of a firearm, forgery and a curfew violation.

Brunson was taken to the Justice Center and is scheduled to be arraigned today.
