Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- More than two dozen Soldiers with the Army National Guard were welcomed home on Tuesday.

Members of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team were reunited with family and friends at Hancock Air Base after being deployed for almost a year.

“It’s very nice to be home and see my wife and godson. It’s been a long time, just been a long time coming, that’s all,” said First Sergeant Nathan Hawker.

“It seems like the last week has been longer than even a month’s time. The last week has really dragged on." said Hawker's wife Renee who is thrilled to have her husband home. "I feel like a kid at Christmas. I'm so excited."

The Soldiers spent time all across the Middle East, many were in stationed in Kuwait or Afghanistan. Another homecoming is set for later this month, as 125 Soldiers from the same brigade are set to return at the end of January.
