Eaton (WSYR-TV) – A babysitter in Madison County is facing a criminal charge after a child she was responsible for was found wandering along a road by a Sheriff’s Deputy.

The deputy found the 2 ½-year-old on the shoulder of Park Street carrying his shoes.

Sheriff’s Investigators and Child Protective Services personnel located the child’s home about a quarter-of-a-mile away.

At the home, they found the child’s babysitter, 20-year-old Starr Miller, of West Eaton, asleep.

The child’s mother was notified. Sheriff’s Investigators discovered that the child’s mother had dropped off the babysitter and her child at the residence on Park Street that morning.

They say Miller put the child down for a nap at 9 a.m. and then went to another room. The child left the home without Miller knowing.

Police charged Miller with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

She was issued an appearance ticket and will answer the charge on Oct. 10 in Town of Eaton Court.
