Baldwinsville (WSYR-TV) - In Baldwinsville tonight, district residents will hear more about plans to possibly close one of two schools to help close its budget gap.

Officials and residents say it’s a tough decision to make. But the home of the Bees isn’t the only district being compelled to consider such a move.

Van Buren Elementary is one of the schools the district is considering closing, alongside Elden Elementary. Both are among the oldest schools in the district. Closing one of the two could help the district save about $1.3 million.

The district recently conducted a study on student population in the schools and the possible impact such a closure could have on the district and its students. The findings will be discussed at Monday night’s meeting, along with recent news regarding the state aid Baldwinsville can expect this year. The aid will be an increase of nearly a half a million, but not enough to stem a $6 million budget gap.

District board members will meet at 7 p.m. at Durgee Junior High School in the school cafeteria.
