Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Bestselling military thriller and espionage writer Tom Clancy is dead at the age of 66.
Clancy was the author of “The Hunt for Red October” and a number of other books that inspired Hollywood blockbusters.
CNN’s sources did not indicate the cause of his death.
Clancy's other famous books that have led to famous films or video games include "Clear and Present Danger," "Patriot Games," "The Sum of All Fears," "Rainbow Six," "Ghost Recon," and "Splinter Cell."
17 of the prolific author's novels have appeared on the New York Times Bestsellers List.
