Washington, DC (WSYR-TV/ABC) - House Speaker John Boehner says he will vote to support a US strike in Syria in response the Assad regime using chemical weapons on its own people.
During a Capitol Hill news conference, Boehner said the US has a responsibility to send a message to Syria and the world that such behavior will not be tolerated.
Boehner made the statement after he and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi met with President Obama to discuss the situation in Syria days after Secretary of State John Kerry asserted that the US had determined that 1,429 people were killed in a chemical attack in a Damascus suburb.
The US believes the Syrian government was behind the attack and that 426 children were among those killed.
Since then, the UK parliament voted to refrain from taking action in Syria, while France and other nations have voiced support.
