VILLAGE OF CAYUGA (WSYR-TV) - There is a boil water advisory in effect for the Village of Cayuga and Aurelius Water District 3 after a water main break on Sunday.
Aurelius Town Clerk Debbie Pinckney told NewsChannel 9 that crews worked throughout the morning to make repairs.
While the water main break has been fixed, the advisory is in effect until further notice.
The water has high turbidity levels, or cloudiness.
Turbidity has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide an way for bacteria to grow.
Residents are advised to boil water before drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, or preparing food.
The high turbidity levels in the water are due to high turbidity levels in Cayuga Lake.
The boil water is expected to be in place until next week.
