Vernon (WSYR-TV) - A boil water order has been issued for the Village of Vernon after the area's water pump went down over the weekend and a water main break Monday.
The boil water order is in effect until approximately 5pm Friday.
Village Mayor William Sreca said the village's problems started over the weekend when the water pump located at Route 5 near the Sherill line went down over.
Monday, a water main along Route 5 broke. It has since been repaired.
Sreca said while all this was happening, the village was in the process of putting in a new four mile long water line. Construction has been happening for the past month, and the goal is to get people onto the new water line by April 1st.
In the meantime, people living in the village are being told to boil any cooking or drinking water until the all-clear has been given, which is expected to be Friday.
