Red Creek (WSYR-TV) – Officials have issued a boil water order for residents in the Wayne County community of Red Creek.
Severe storms that rolled through Central New York on Tuesday afternoon caused power outages throughout the area, including Red Creek’s water plant, prompting the boil water order. Without power, the plant loses its ability to process water properly and a decline in water pressure can allow harmful bacteria to develop.
State Health officials say they must test the water until they obtain safe readings before the order can be lifted.
Officials said the order is mandatory and that residents should bring water to a rolling boil before eating, drinking, or brushing their teeth.
