Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A rainy day was the perfect opportunity for kids to stay inside and sharpen their reading skills.
The 13th annual Children's Book Fest at Franklin Elementary School in Syracuse featured a series of interactive programs, with the theme "Reading is Nutritious".
Kids between the ages of 2-10 were invited to enjoy book-based activities in classrooms including crafts, reading, music performances, and meet-the-author opportunities. In a mock newsroom, Newschannel 9 staff interviewed kids on-camera, sending a DVD copy home with families.
The festival is part of Success by 6, a program founded by local businesses, through the United Way, to make books accessible and ensure that kids don't fall behind in school.
