FORT DRUM, N.Y. (AP) - The last large contingent of Fort Drum's 3rd Brigade Combat Team is scheduled to arrive home from Afghanistan this week.
A homecoming ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Magrath Sports Complex at the northern New York military post, home to the Army's 10th Mountain Division.
The brigade has been returning over the past few weeks, and Friday's arrival of the command group and members of the headquarters elements will bring most of the 3,400 soldiers back to Fort Drum.
Army officials say that will leave a final contingent of fewer than 100 troops in Afghanistan to wrap up the brigade's yearlong deployment in Kandahar Province as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
