Geddes (WSYR-TV) -- Geddes residents had their chance to pose their questions to Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle during a town hall meeting on Monday night. The Republican discussed a variety of issues, but she fielded a number of questions concerning the student loan debate.

"In a fragile economy like we’re in, to double student loans, the interest on student loans would be detrimental to students and what we really need is to get this economy going and get the American people back to work,” Buerkle said.

Student loans have become the latest political fight on Capitol Hill. Both parties agree that loan rates shouldn’t double, but they can’t agree on how to pay for that.

Buerkle will hold another town hall meeting this Friday in Cicero.
