Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - After nearly nine months of reconstruction work, the Butternut Street Bridge over Interstate 81 reopened Wednesday afternoon. The project began in January and cost a total of $17.9 million.
The old bridge's joints and deck were bad, showing the wear caused by fifty Central New York winters. So, following the successful replacement of the Court Street and Spencer Street Bridges, the Butternut Street Bridge got an overhaul.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon to mark the opening of the brand new bridge.
While the Butternut Bridge will be open, you will see workers on it over the next few weeks, making some finishing touches.
