GEDDES, NY (WSYR-TV) - Local veterans were honored on Saturday during the 2012 Veterans Parade and Expo at the New York State Fairgrounds.
Hundreds of people lined the parade route to cheer on veterans from every branch of the military who have served over the decades.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force told NewsChannel 9 that such a show of support is great to see.
“You know there have been times when, I’ve been in the last 22 years, where, I won’t say that I felt that the public hasn’t been there, but it kind of ebbs and flows. There are times when you feel the support and then there’s times where it’s not so much. So, as it stands right now it feels pretty good,” said Tech Sergeant Michael Philpott with the 174th Attack Wing.
While people lined the streets to honor him and others who defend our country, Philpott said he is remembering those close to him that lost their lives on the dangerous battlegrounds overseas.
"I've been across the pond, been overseas, I've been around the world in different capacities in the US Air Force and I've lost some friends," said Philpott.
The parade was followed by the annual Veterans Expo inside the Center of Progress building.
