Fayetteville (WSYR-TV) -- If you were planning on enjoying this holiday weekend camping, hopefully you booked in advance. Campgrounds around Central New York are packed and most of them are completely full.

A lot of families are taking part in their Memorial Day tradition of spending the holiday weekend camping. If you haven’t already made a reservation at Green Lakes or someplace else, chances are you’ll have a tough time finding a place to camp.

It will be a packed house at Green Lakes State Park this weekend, with some campers already relaxing and others not too far behind.

Green Lakes State Park Manager Jim Semar says they have 137 campsites and seven cabins, all of which are already reserved.

For many families, camping at Green Lakes has become a tradition. Many reserve the very same campsite year after year and have been doing so for the last several years.

Getting that perfect spot takes a lot of planning – nine months beforehand – when reservations are opened up.

Camper Patti Roddy says she got up early nine months ago just to book the site she wanted.

“On that day, nine months ago…we’re awake at seven in the morning waiting to get on our computers so we can book our sites, because we want to get the site we want,” Roddy explained.

We checked the State Parks website and most parks that offer camping are full. There are some "walk-up" campsites available. But we're told those spaces go quickly.
