Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A Central New York mother took time out Friday afternoon to offer a very special thank you to the family doctor she says saved her young son's life.

Five years ago, Jennifer Fura's son Scotty lost his arm in an accident at the family's home. On Friday, Fura presented a copy of the book she wrote about her son's journey to the doctor who treated him after the accident. The book, entitled 'Scotty's Way' describes how the 7-year-old performs everyday tasks with his injury.

"Scotty has been a big part of my practice ever since I got to know him as a baby and when I saw the family I said 'Aha something's going on' but I was surprised I didn't know there was a book or anything so this was all a big shock to me," said Dr. Brian Harley.

A copy of the book can be obtained by visiting Scotty's website.
