Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Two Central New York natives will compete in tonight’s All State game tonight in Queens.
Pirates closer Jason Grilli – who grew up in Baldwinsville – and Diamondbacks lefty Patrick Corbin – who graduated from Cicero-North Syracuse – will represent the National League in the Midsummer Classic.
Grilli, 36, currently leads the National League in saves with 29.
He has helped lead a renaissance in Pittsburgh, as the once-moribund Bucs are among the top teams in the majors.
The veteran righty from CW Baker High School nearly walked away from baseball three years ago, as mounting injuries put his career in jeopardy.
After intensive rehab and a stint in the minors, Grilli is flourishing in the Pirates' pen, posting the best numbers of his career over the past three seasons.
Corbin, 23, made his major league debut last season.
The C-NS alum started the 2013 season 9-0, helping Arizona to first place in the NL West Division. The lanky left-hander ranks in the top ten in the league in most major pitching categories.
